7 months!!!

Eileen and Ewan are 7 months old today. Eileen lifted herself up from leaning against my leg and sat up on her own today. Ewan rolls, flips and pushes himself up with ease. He started backwards crawling a couple days ago. Ewan smiles all the time now and is very excited to see new people. He loves standing. Eileen laughs out loud, is ticklish and is still an amazing sleeper. Both of their eyelashes are thicker now, and the hair on their head is starting to grow. Eileen loves being outside and looking at trees through the window. They both have a strong grip and love playing with tactile and visually stimulating toys. They bring everything to their mouth. They mostly eat fruit and vegetables but they have tried salmon, peanut butter, rice, eggs, elk, pesto, scallops and halibut.

2017 Hunting Trip

Every year my two brothers and our Dad head up to a hunting camp a little bit north of Valleyview Alberta in an effort to fill our freezers with delicious wild game meat. This year we called in support from Janet’s parents so that I could head up north for a week without feeling too guilty about leaving Janet alone with seven month old twins.

As this is a post about hunting, expect to see some graphic images, if that’s not for you, you may not want to proceed. You may not want to eat meat either if you can’t handle where it comes from, but that’s another subject. 😉 Continue reading “2017 Hunting Trip”

Co-sleeping to crib sleeping

October 28 was our first night sleeping in a separate room from the babies, up until then we either bed shared or they slept in their baby boxes beside a queen bed (which was set up in their room). It was time for the babies to move out of their boxes and into a bigger sleeping space. We only had one crib so they shared for the first couple of weeks. The first time we put Eileen in the big crib she rolled from side to side giggling and screeching with joy, then we split the crib in two and she looked visible unimpressed. She made it quite clear she wanted her own crib. Over the weekend we got a second crib and this week we got a second mattress. The crib is a bit damaged along the top railing so I made the covers shown in the picture. Two nights ago was their first time sleeping in separate cribs, and everything went really well. We could hear them babbling at each other through the monitor. We could also hear Ewan making spit bubbles and Eileen breathing heavily through her mouth.

Sadly I didn’t take a picture of the room before with the baby boxes and the queen bed.

Both Eileen and Ewan started napping for 2 hours at the same time! The same time! The first time it happened I stood in the living room unsure what to do with myself. Now I do dinner prep and laundry… haha the glamorous lifestyle I live!! All kidding aside I am very grateful for the little bit of solo downtime.

Twin-go

Today I wore the twin go carrier with both babies!! We walked around the yard briefly looking at the snow and trees. Next time I’ll put my jacket on first and suit the babies up so we can stay outside longer. I was thinking it would be fun to go snow shoeing with the babies in the twin-go. Stay tuned for our winter adventures!! Lol.

6 month doctor visit

On November 3 Ewan and Eileen had there six month check up.

Eileen weighs 14 pounds 2 ounces

Ewan weighs 13 pounds 11 ounces

They are both 65 cm in length with head circumference of 42 cm

They are exploring all sorts of new flavours and textures from pasta and pesto to elk barley stew. It is a lot of fun watching their reaction to new flavours.

They both received their third round of vaccinations yesterday.

After their bath today

And then true to form Eileen decided she wasn’t taking up enough space so she spread her arms out while poking Ewan in the eye

Yesterday after the vaccination Ewan just wanted to cuddle the stuffies, he loves soft material.

Jogging Stroller

So, I finally gave in and bought a good jogging/biking/walking stroller. Even secondhand the stroller was a pretty penny. Today was our maiden voyage. Went for a run and then a walk with the dogs.

The stroller is supposed to be great in the snow and the cabin keeps the babies protected from the elements. I think we will use the stroller a lot over the next couple years.

First taste of Banana

Tonight we put pieces of banana on Ewan and Eileen’s highchair trays. At first neither was interested in the banana, they were more interested in watching Kyle and I eat our dinner. After showing them the banana Ewan did pick it up and bring it to his mouth and lick it. I had to hold it to Eileen mouth, and then she licked it.

So, tonight they both had their first taste of Banana!

Unfortunately I didn’t get a picture of Eileen because I was holding her and the banana! Sorry baby girl!!

The next morning (October 25) we tired bananas again. This time I got a picture of Eileen. They basically just suck on and lick their fingers after squishing the banana with their hands

6 Months!

Well 6 months have come and gone so fast I barely remember anything! It has truly been the most transformational 6 months of my life, everything has changed. Watching Eileen and Ewan grow, learn and live life has been unbelievably precious and special.

Our marriage has strengthened and grown as well, I am so lucky to have an amazing husband to co-parent with.

This month both Ewan and Eileen started grabbing their feet. Ewan has been sticking his tongue out a lot over the last few days. They both like playing with sensory toys and watching Baby Einstein DVD’s (so I have a moment to make dinner!). They like to be constantly entertained. I read them simple books and we have dance parties.
